Indigo Early Learning Centre – Forresters Beach
From Local Struggles to National Success – A Story of Visionary Transformation
In 2016, Indigo ELC Forresters Beach was born from a bold vision to reimagine what early childhood education could be. At the time, the centre was an underperforming facility, marked by outdated practices and limited community trust. Under the leadership of founder and early childhood teacher Hannah Crossley, the centre underwent a complete transformation—structurally, culturally, and pedagogically.
Within just two years, the service evolved into a standout model of excellence in early education. Central to its revival was the introduction of nature-based learning, a holistic vegetarian menu, and sustainability-driven practices such as the exclusive use of cloth nappies. Today, Indigo ELC Forresters Beach is one of the only childcare centres in the region offering certified Forest School programs, a dedicated Swim School, and Saturday care—an essential offering for working families.
This centre has not only transformed the lives of families and children on the Central Coast—it has become a multi-award-winning national leader in early childhood innovation. Forresters Beach and its sister centres have collectively won five national awards, including the 2024 Australian Small Business Champion Award for Most Outstanding Childcare Centre in Australia, and multiple recognitions in the Local Business Awards.
The turnaround of Indigo ELC Forresters Beach is a testament to Hannah Crossley’s commitment to reshaping outdated childcare models. Her work proves that visionary leadership, paired with deep community connection and an unwavering focus on sustainability, can not only elevate a struggling service—but redefine an entire sector.
